created by Joya Menashe

You’re invited to take pause at the
Oceans Eye
with a visual plunge into the depths of our own deep blue hole.

A blue hole is an oasis in an otherwise barren seafloor

This is a digitally produced ‘Retina’ on vinyl with an upcycled hairdryer hood from Portland Salon ‘Wooptido’. A peek through will carry you down our version of a blue hole in the deep magical ocean. Past the blue hole area you gaze through an undersea lava tube where lies an oasis of collectibles for future use. You’ll finally visually arrive at the “Rusty Clutter Art Pavillion” our own [private] lounge created mostly for art in 1998, by Linda & Joya… and home source for many creative endeavors.

A blue hole is a large underwater cavern, or sinkhole, found either inland or in the ocean. For the most part, they are more or less circular and open at the surface. They tend to be quite easy to spot from the air due to the colour difference; the inside of the hole tends to be a darker blue than the surrounding waters. Hence the name, “blue” hole! Diving into a blue hole is a special experience. Most of them boast beautiful geological formations, with some even leading to cave systems just for added excitement.

That is the technical definition…

The Blue Beyond

Joya’s deep connection is to the awe-inspiring blue holes and lava tubes of Mangrove Keys, on the island of Andros - part of the 2nd Barrier Reef in the Bahamas. She first visited this magnificent location on a scuba diving adventure in 1988 with Carla Key, and the experience was unforgettable. Many treasures were found on that excursion, and some of them have been sprinkled around the Reflection Reef portion of the Winter Light Festival exhibit.

This work of art is dedicated to the memory of three blue-eyed souls who are no longer with us -
JAN SIEBERT - BETI WILLS and CARLA KEY.
The artists (Joya/Linda) were inspired by these friends - all three possessed incredible blue eyes they considered revealed the depth of their souls. These friends have shared their energies and history at numerous events and activities at this location. They are with us in spirit and we have felt them throughout the set up of this exhibit. May their souls continue to explore the deep blue depths forever.
